Stefano Bruno (2000, Italy) is a laureate of numerous international competitions. Already at the age of 18, he won the gold medal and special prize at the VIII International Cello Competition in Hungary. In 2022, he won the first prize in the prestigious Cello Biennale Competition in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. A year later followed the first price at the Amsterdam Grachten Festival Conservatorium Concours. Moreover, as a member of the Otilka Quartet, he was awarded the Dutch Anton Kersjesprijs in 2025. Finally, in 2026, he released his first solo CD “Stefano Bruno & Friends” including many of his own arrangements, as part of the talent trajectory ‘Virtuoos’ of the Dutch broadcasting corporation AVRO-TROS for which he was honourably selected.
Stefano studied cello from an early age at the Conservatory of Foggia, from which he graduated in 2018 with full marks, honors and mention. He then continued his studies at the Stauffer Center for Strings, at the Philarmonic Academy of Bologna, and at the School of Music of Fiesole. In recent years, Stefano Bruno studied at the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome and at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the class of Pieter Wispelwey. He graduated from both academies summa cum laude. During and after his formal training, he has taken part in many masterclasses.
Stefano has given concerts extensively throughout Europe as both a recital and concerto soloist with the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, VUOrkest, Settenovecento Orchestra, Intercontinental Ensemble, Odessa Philharmonic Orchestra and the Symphonic Orchestra of the Conservatory of Foggia.
In 2022, he debuted at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, both in the Recital Hall with a solo recital and in the Grote Zaal playing Elgar’s Cello Concerto conducted by Ed Spanjaard.
He was selected to take part in a project with the famous cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras after he was awarded the “AnnerBijlsma Award”.
Stefano is an omnivore in classical music styles. Amongst others, he is a member of: Bruno-Kramer duo (cello and piano duo), Greci-Bruno duo (violin and cello duo), Trio Eidos (piano trio), Otilka quartet (string quartet), Cello Biennale quartet (cello quartet) and Opificio Sonoro (contemporary music ensemble). Also, he plays with the famous Amsterdam Sinfonietta on a regular basis.
Stefano plays a Rene Jacquemin cello, that was built in Mirecourt between 1925 and 1930.
